As a junior in high school, she does not yet know which subject(s) she wants to major in yet, but is generally interested in Biology, Spanish, International Studies - or, at least, studying abroad - and Psychology. Our daughter is primarily interested in a small liberal arts college within reasonable driving distance - or a short flight - of our home in the Seattle area. or, the one that we might like to believe we would have liked to attend ourselves.īefore sharing some observations about the colleges we visited, I want to provide a little more context. Although she has far greater motivation, discipline and achievements in her academic pursuits than either of us had at this age, we both have to remind ourselves - or, more commonly, each other - that we want our daughter to choose the school that she believes is best for her, not the one that we believe is best for her. During our college tours, my wife and I - who first met while we were students at Ripon College, a small midwestern liberal arts college - both encountered variations on this struggle with respect to our daughter during our initial college tour with her. I wanted to record a few impressions of the different places while the experience is relatively fresh, and decided to post them here, in case they are of use to others. PNCA offers a total of 18 undergraduate and graduate programs, including both residential and online. Further, it boasts of a decent sports infrastructure. The school believes in the all-round growth of the students and therefore, encourages students to take part in several sporting activities, conducted inside the campus. In its 111 years of existence, PNCA has produced several known personalities like Mary Mattingly, Lee Kelly, Tabor Robak, and Manuel Izquierdo. When it comes to gender distribution at the varsity, around 67% of the students are females and 33% are males. And, at the university, around 83% of the students are 24 and under. At PNCA around 59% are white, 14% belong to an unknown race or ethnicity, and 8% belong to Hispanic ethnicity. Interestingly, Pacific Northwest College of Art has an ethnically diverse student population. These faculty teach different courses to the students. The school has a total of 94 (2017) academic staff. In addition to over 514 undergraduate students, PNCA also boasts of over 136 students in its postgraduate courses, taking the total enrollment to over 642 (2019).
